What is Cyproterone
Cyproterone acetate is a progestational antiandrogen that blocks androgen receptor binding and suppresses androgen-sensitive tissues. It is available in a topical form in Europe for the treatment of hirsutism.
Cyproterone function
Cyproterone acetate competitively inhibits the effects of androgens on androgen-dependent target organs, for example, by making the prostate immune to the androgens produced in the gonads and/or adrenal cortex. For women, hirsute symptoms are reduced, and androgen-dependent hair loss and enhanced sebaceous gland function are reduced.Ovarian function was inhibited during treatment.The tendency to slightly increase prolactin levels has occasionally been observed with higher doses of cyprogesterone acetate.
