    Diethylstilbestrol is a derivative of stilbene, and it differs from sin-estrol by the presence of a double bond with trans-configuration of the two phenyl groups. In terms of estrogenic activity, this drug surpasses both estrone and hexestrol.
 

    Diethylstilbestrol can promote the growth and development of the uterus, fallopian tubes, vagina and breast. In addition to maintaining the sexual characteristics of adult females, it can also make vaginal epithelium, uterine smooth muscle, and endometrial hyperplasia, and stimulate uterine contractions. Small doses can promote the secretion of pituitary luteinizing hormon (LH); large doses can inhibit the secretion  of pituitary follicle stimulating hormone (FSH) and also inhibit lactation.The drug has obvious effects on promoting protein synthesis in ruminants, and can also increase body water, accelerate weight gain and accelerate bone salt deposition.
