Thymine, also known as 5-methyluracil, was first isolated from the calf thymus.It is the main pyrimidine component in deoxyribonucleic acid.It is linked with deoxyribose through a glycosidic chain to form deoxythymidine, and its triphosphate is combined into deoxythymidine triphosphate, which is the precursor of thymine in the process of deoxyribonucleic acid biosynthesis.
