Eicosanic acid, also known as arachidic acid, is a straight-chain saturated fatty acid with 20 carbons. It is part of peanut oil (1.1%-1.7%) and part of corn oil (3%). Its name is derived from the Latin word for peanut. Arachidic acid is used in the production of detergents, photosensitive materials and lubricants; used in the preparation of washing powder, photographic materials, lubricating oils, etc.
